AS ABOVE, SO BELOW

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW

As Above, So Below extends the psychological landscape introduced in :), shifting the focus from what lies beneath the surface to the nature of perspective itself.

Signed on both sides, the painting exists without a fixed orientation. A smiling face occupies one end, a sorrowful face the other. Rotate the canvas 180 degrees and their positions reverse. Neither expression is permanent. Neither is more true.

Two repeating spirals extend from each figure, binding the opposing states within the same continuous structure. They resemble echoes rather than bodies, tracing the persistence of thought, emotion, and memory beyond a single moment. The surrounding field dissolves into an undefined expanse of layered greys, without horizon or direction. Suspended between presence and absence, the forms linger in a space where certainty no longer applies.

Where :) explores the invisible tension between outward appearance and inner complexity, As Above, So Below asks whether those emotional states are truly opposites at all. Joy and sadness emerge as reflections within the same landscape, separated only by perspective. What appears to rise may simply be viewed from another direction.

Nothing within the painting changes. Only the direction from which it is observed.
