PHANTOM

PHANTOM

“Phantom” is a story about the persistence of self through change, an abstracted figure that haunts not a space but a memory of who we once were. The central form, loosely outlined in textured layers of black and white, evokes the silhouette of a ghost cloaked in a soft, wide-sleeved robe. Its cartoonish eyes, hands, and legs lend it an almost childlike familiarity—friendly, even humorous—yet quietly unsettling in its quiet watchfulness.

This phantom isn’t something otherworldly; it’s a trace of the past self lingering in the present. The repetition of its eyes in the top right corner suggests it continues to observe, to remain present even as time erodes its clarity. The smeared imprints across the canvas are echoes, residual gestures of former identities and former versions of the self—erased, overpainted, yet never fully gone.

Through its tactile layering and spectral composition, Phantom invites viewers to confront the quiet presence of who they used to be. It reminds us that identity is never static, that parts of us remain long after we’ve moved on. Not all ghosts are frightening; some are simply the shadows of selves that once were, still lingering, still watching, still part of us.
