BIG BLUE

BIG BLUE

“BIG BLUE” is a monochrome immersion into depth, surface, and concealment. Saturated entirely in cobalt blue, the work blurs the line between painting and object. Beneath its uniform color lie hidden structures, layered paper, cardboard, canvas, and embedded forms that push outward, warping the surface from within. What appears minimal at first reveals a quiet complexity upon closer inspection.

The protrusions and ridges catch light differently, exposing subtle shifts in tone and occasional traces of silver. These variations suggest movement beneath stillness, like currents traveling under an ocean’s surface. The painting evokes the sea not through depiction, but through presence. It carries the weight of something vast, layered, and unknown.

The central textures fold and ripple as if shaped by pressure and time. Shapes emerge and dissolve depending on angle and light, reinforcing the idea that depth cannot be fully grasped at once. The monochrome palette intensifies this experience. By limiting color, attention turns to structure, shadow, and material tension.

BIG BLUE reflects on immensity and concealment. Like the ocean, it withholds more than it reveals. Beneath the apparent calm lies complexity, inventory, and force. The work invites viewers to consider what exists under surfaces, within systems, within themselves, where meaning often resides not in what is visible, but in what is submerged.
