C4T

C4T

“C4T” merges nostalgia with identity, forming a feline presence out of obsolete technology. The silhouette of a sitting cat emerges from a chaotic interlacing of unraveled cassette tape, its soft brown strands shaping body and tail with unexpected warmth. What once carried sound now constructs form, turning memory into anatomy.

The face is defined by the cassette itself. Two circular gears become eyes, one filled with blue, echoing the distinct gaze of a living companion. Four short white insulation strips form sharp, triangular ears, giving the figure alertness and character. At the centre of the body, a small CD rests like a toy, a subtle nod to another era of entertainment layered into the cat’s core.

Black, white, and silver splatters punctuate the white canvas, adding depth without grounding the figure in any specific space. There is no background, only presence. The cat sits calmly, tail curling upward, looking directly at the viewer. Its paws are undefined, yet the tangled tape suggests softness, movement, and playful energy.

C4T reflects on how technology once held our attention, stored our memories, and shaped our routines. By reconstructing a living form from outdated media, the work transforms tools of past consumption into something intimate and enduring. It suggests that while formats change and devices fade, attachment, companionship, and emotional imprint remain.
